Commission a Painting

Christopher Rossow paints commissioned portraits in oil — individuals, couples and families, painted from life sittings and photographic reference.

Every commission begins with a conversation about the subject, the setting and the size of the finished painting. From there the process is simple and collaborative.

How a commission works

  1. Enquiry

Send a note describing who the portrait is for, the subject, and any ideas about setting, mood or size.

  2. Reference & sitting

Reference photographs are gathered or taken; where possible a sitting is arranged so the painting is worked from life as well as photographs.

  3. Study & approval

A small compositional study is prepared and reviewed with you before the final canvas is started.

  4. Painting

The portrait is painted in oil on linen or board. Progress photographs are shared along the way.

  5. Delivery

The finished painting is varnished, and delivered or shipped ready to hang.
